With a significant amount of experience in one of the fastest growing sectors in Tourism, Karen provides human capital leadership for the iconic hospitality resort, Atlantis, the largest private employer in the Bahamas.  Her leadership spans decades of human capital management with collaborative responsibilities in global locations to support her company’s brand and strategic objectives.

She is a skilled Human Resources leader who has extensive development leadership experience in her portfolio.  She is known for her keen problem-solving capabilities, agility in talent management, development and learning, strategic planning, performance management, compensation and benefits, and business partnership building. She thrives in a dynamic faced paced environment and is a roll-up -the sleeves leader who is an ardent advocate for driving processes for greater efficiencies to better support business strategies.

She developed and launched Atlantis University, a corporate learning environment designed to provide a framework for employee training, and leadership development for its diverse workforce.  She played a key leadership role in implementing her company’s mission, vision and core values. She spearheaded the resulting re-launch of a new and revised vision to support  the company’s re-positioning of its brand and strategic objective. Karen’s initiative earned the recognition by being featured in Harvard Business Review article and a case study for hospitality students at Cornell University’s hospitality program. Most notably, it provided the impetus for improved employee engagement and performance management. She led multiple human capital management change processes which contributed to the attainment of the company’s business goals.

With her combined academic and professional experience, she assembled a wealth of skills and knowledge which spans over five ownerships and over nine CEOs. Her experience in managing the human capital operations and driving strategies has earned her expanded leadership responsibilities and recognition for her contributions.

Karen has been recognized for her accomplishments in the hospitality industry by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism’s National Cacique Award for Human Resources.  She is also the recipient of the prestigious HR award from the Human Resource Management Association of Barbados and the Caribbean, among others. She is also a founding President of the Bahamas Hotel Association of Human Resources Practitioners and held the position of President for the Regional Chapter of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM). 

Her most recent honor was awarded to her at the 2019 Most Influential Business Women in the Bahamas.

She is a member of the prestigious International Women’s Forum and in partnership with the Bahamas Women’s Forum, served on the leadership team to launch an intensive conference for the development of professional women leaders both local and regional from a wide range of sectors. She is also a member of  Zonta International.

Among other professional affiliations, Karen serves on the Board of Directors for Doctors Hospital, Nassau Bahamas and is a long -standing member on the Board of Advisors for the Salvation Army. 

Karen’s professional experience combined with her academic achievement of Bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami, Florida, a Master’s degree from the University of Mercy, as well as a background in para legal studies has afforded her the opportunity to support numerous community and industry focused initiatives. Among other credentials, she is a certified 360-Degree administrator by the Center for Creative Leadership and a certified Director from the Caribbean Training Institute. 

In her spare time, Karen enjoys being on the other side of the tourism experience, she enjoys travelling the world, biking cross country, continuing education and building networks and community development.
